What Amplitude does

Amplitude is a digital analytics platform aimed at product teams. It brings product and web analytics together with session replay for web and mobile, heatmaps, feature and web experimentation, guides and surveys, and activation, which pushes data out to other systems. The vendor also offers AI agents, an MCP connection so you can request insights from tools such as Claude or Cursor, AI Feedback for what customers say, and Agent Analytics for teams that ship AI agents.

Data gets into Amplitude through SDKs. The official pages name TypeScript, Python, Go, Swift and Kotlin, and list iOS and Android SDKs, plus an HTTP API for sending data from server-side code. The pricing page also lists a Chrome extension among the Growth and Enterprise features.

Pricing follows event volume instead of headcount, and the pricing page states that unlimited seats come with every plan. Growth and Enterprise use custom, event-based pricing through contact sales. Some advanced capabilities on these plans are sold as add-ons.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Unlimited seats on every plan, so pricing does not track headcount
  • One platform covers analytics, session replay, experimentation, guides and surveys, and activation
  • SDKs for several languages plus an HTTP API for server-side data
  • MCP connection lets you request insights from tools like Claude and Cursor

Cons

  • Free plan limits experiments, guides and surveys, and caps AI feedback records at 2000
  • Costs depend on event volume as the product grows

Our take

Amplitude suits product and growth teams that want analytics, replays, experiments and in-product messaging from one vendor and would like to start without paying. The Free plan has no time limit and no card requirement, and seats are unlimited, so many colleagues can work from the same data. Free also caps experiments, guides, surveys and AI feedback records, and some advanced options cost extra.
