What Fireworks AI does
Fireworks AI is a platform for running, routing and training open models. Developers call hosted models through an API, and the vendor says the same API keeps working as a team moves from serverless use to reserved capacity or to a deployment inside its own cloud.
Pricing is usage based rather than plan based. The pricing page lists no monthly or yearly subscription fee. Serverless inference is paid per token from prepaid credits: you add a payment method, buy credits, and each request reduces the balance. Auto Reload and a monthly spend limit are optional controls. Fine-tuning is priced per million training tokens, and on-demand deployments are billed per GPU second, with prices listed in US dollars on the pricing page. Region-restricted deployments carry a 1.5x premium and are set up through sales.
The vendor lists support for the OpenAI Chat Completions and Responses APIs and the Anthropic Messages API, zero data retention by default, and deployments that span 30+ regions. Fireworks Sovereign can run the stack in your own cloud or data center. Serverless carries no SLA.

Our take
Fireworks AI fits developers and engineering teams that want to call open models through an API format they may already use, pay for tokens or GPU time, and later move into fine-tuning or dedicated capacity. Teams that need uptime commitments must look beyond Serverless, and region restrictions add a premium. Costs depend on the model and workload, so estimate your usage against the published rates before committing.

Frequently asked questions
How does Fireworks AI charge for serverless inference?
Per token, from prepaid credits. You add a payment method, buy credits, and usage reduces the balance. Auto Reload and a monthly spend limit are optional.
Can I use my existing OpenAI or Anthropic client code?
The vendor says it supports the OpenAI Chat Completions and Responses APIs and the Anthropic Messages API. You change the base URL and API key, choose a model, and keep the rest of your code.
Can it run in my own cloud?
Yes. Fireworks Sovereign runs the Fireworks stack on your Kubernetes clusters, in your cloud or data center, and the vendor operates it.
Does serverless come with an SLA?
No. Reserved Throughput comes with a throughput SLA for traffic within your reservation, and uptime commitments for dedicated or BYOC deployments require talking to the vendor.
