What Metaplane does
Metaplane is a data observability platform, presented on its site as part of Datadog, for data teams that want to hear about broken or suspicious data early. You connect a warehouse, dbt and BI tools, then add monitors to the tables that matter. Monitors can be set up without writing code and cover volume, schema, freshness, uniqueness, nullness, statistical distribution and custom SQL. A machine learning model takes seasonality and trends into account, rather than relying only on fixed tests.
Other capabilities include column-level lineage from sources to BI tools, usage insights showing how data is queried and by whom, alerts to Slack, email and MS Teams, and a Data CI/CD feature that runs regression and impact tests on pull requests. It works with GitHub, GitLab, dbt Core and dbt Cloud.
There are three plans. Pro is usage-based and charged per monitored table; the pricing page shows no figure for it. Billing depends on how many tables have had monitors running for more than 30 days. Enterprise is custom, sold through sales, and adds SSO and PrivateLink support. New sign-ups get all features for 14 days with no credit card required. Pricing for Pro and Enterprise is not published on the official site. Snowflake users can pay with existing Snowflake credits.

- Usage-based pricing, with Snowflake credits accepted as payment
Cons
- Pro price is usage-based and no figure is published on the pricing page

- Data Impact Previews are marked as an add-on on paid plans
- Enterprise features such as SSO require contacting sales for custom pricing
- No annual billing prices are shown on the pricing page
Our take
Metaplane fits data teams that already run a warehouse, dbt and BI tools and want monitoring, lineage and pull request checks in one place, with a free tier to start. Usage-based billing means you pay for monitored tables, which may suit teams watching a small set of critical tables. The trade-offs: the Pro price is not published, so budgeting needs a trial or a sales conversation, and the Free plan is capped at 10 monitored tables. Impact and test previews are marked as add-ons on paid plans, and SSO needs a custom Enterprise contract. Teams wanting a flat, fully published price may find it less predictable.
