What Payload does

Checks AI agent payments against your spending rules, verifies them on-chain, recovers failures and keeps an audit ledger.

Payload is a small software studio that sells developer tools around AI agents, automation and payments. Its flagship product is Veyline, a hosted, metered subscription service that sits around agent payments over the x402 protocol. Before money moves, Veyline checks each operation against policies you set, such as spending limits and approved actions. It then verifies the payment on-chain and labels settlement as confirmed, unconfirmed or unknown, rather than assuming a payment went through.

Veyline also covers what happens after a payment. It uses idempotency keys so retries do not duplicate charges, recovers failed operations to a known state, and records each operation in a hash-chained ledger that can be audited later. It is non-custodial, so it does not hold funds, private keys or seed phrases. You reach it through the callx402 CLI or a REST API.

Pricing is by monthly operations. The Free / Sandbox plan costs $0 and includes 1,000 operations per month. Developer is $99 per month for 10,000 operations, Production is $499 per month for 100,000, and Growth is $1,499 per month for 1,000,000. Enterprise starts at $5,000+ per month on custom terms. The pricing page shows only monthly billing. Requests beyond a plan's allocation are throttled with a 429 response instead of being billed. At launch the supported asset is USDC on Base, and x402 is the only live protocol; others are on a roadmap.

  • Policy checks before payment
  • Spending limits and approval thresholds
  • On-chain settlement verification
  • Idempotent retries
  • Safe recovery of failed operations
  • Hash-chained evidence ledger
  • callx402 CLI and REST API
  • Non-custodial design

Good for / Not for

Good for

  • Developers whose AI agents pay for APIs, data or services and need spend limits
  • API providers charging per call over x402 who want payment verification and duplicate protection
  • Teams that need an auditable record of what was authorized, paid and delivered

Not for

  • Anyone who needs a wallet; Veyline is not one
  • Teams that need protocols other than x402 today, as the others are only on the roadmap

How to start

  1. Start free with just an email on the Free / Sandbox plan, or choose a paid plan and check out through Stripe. source

  2. Receive a scoped API key, shown once, tied to your plan's entitlements. source

  3. Connect through the callx402 CLI or call the REST API from your agent or application. source

  4. Set your policies and spend limits so your agents operate within them. source

Limits and gotchas

  • The Free / Sandbox plan includes 1,000 operations per month. source
  • Requests beyond the plan allocation are throttled (429), not billed. source
  • Supported at launch: USDC on Base. source
  • Detailed usage is not included on the Free and Developer plans. source

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Free sandbox plan at $0 with 1,000 operations per month
  • Policy checks and spending limits are applied before money moves
  • Settlement is classified as confirmed, unconfirmed or unknown instead of being guessed
  • Non-custodial: it does not hold funds, private keys or seed phrases
  • Requests over the allocation are throttled (429) rather than billed

Cons

  • x402 is the only live protocol; the others are on the roadmap
  • Detailed usage data is not included on the Free and Developer plans
  • Supported asset at launch is USDC on Base only
  • No source code access; you buy licensed access to a hosted service
  • Enterprise pricing is only 'from $5,000+' per month and needs an inquiry

Our take

Veyline fits teams that already let software agents pay for APIs or data and want rules, verification and an audit trail around those payments. The free sandbox plan, with 1,000 operations per month, lets you try it before paying. The trade-offs are clear from the pages: only x402 is live, USDC on Base is the supported asset at launch, you cannot get the source code, and the lower plans do not include detailed usage data. Hard throttling at your allocation protects you from surprise bills but can interrupt agents. It is not a good match if you need a wallet, other payment protocols today, or published annual discounts.
