What Merlin does
Merlin is an AI assistant offered as a Chrome extension and a web app. The official site also lists an iOS app, an Android app and a native Mac app that includes Merlin Agent. It gives access to multiple AI models through one interface, and the vendor states it does not provide direct API access.
The homepage describes using it on any website you visit to summarize, search, repurpose and create content. It can summarize videos and let you chat with a video. Projects lets you add context and build reusable knowledge bases that you can query repeatedly. Crafts generates diagrams and interactive charts from a prompt. Other listed capabilities are image generation with 20+ image models, custom chatbots built from instructions, context and knowledge, email composing and replies that take the previous mail into account, and translation into more than twenty-five languages. The pricing page also mentions 70+ AI tools.
There are three plans: Free, Pro and Teams.
Pro is not unlimited. The vendor says it gives at least 30x the usage of Free but is bound by Fair Use limits that scale with the price paid. The Pro context window is currently 100k tokens, and extra credits can be bought through a top-up feature.

- Projects and custom chatbots let you reuse your own context and knowledge
- Also covers image generation, diagrams and charts, email replies and translation

- Pro is bound by Fair Use limits, not unlimited, and the context window is 100k tokens
Our take
Merlin fits people who want one assistant that works inside the browser on the pages they are already reading, with extra apps for mobile and Mac. It does not suit developers who need API access, since the vendor says there is none. It also does not suit anyone expecting unlimited use: Pro is bound by Fair Use limits and a 100k token context window, and top-ups cost extra. Teams needs at least 2 seats.
