What Runpod does
Runpod is a cloud service that rents GPU compute for AI work. It has three main products. Pods are dedicated GPU instances where you choose the container, storage and GPU type. Serverless runs containerized models as autoscaling endpoints behind an API. Clusters provide multi-GPU setups for larger jobs, with shared storage attached.
The vendor lists 30+ GPU models across 31 regions. Pods accept custom Docker images, and Serverless adds FlashBoot, which the vendor describes as sub-200ms cold starts, along with scale-to-zero and GitHub deployment with rollback. A Public Endpoints section offers pre-deployed models through an API, priced per request, per token or per character depending on the model. The vendor also states SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA and GDPR compliance.
Pricing is usage-based and shown per hour, with billing metered per second. The pricing page shows no monthly or yearly subscription price for compute. Reserved capacity and some Cluster GPUs are sold through contact sales.

Pros and cons
Pros
- Pods, Serverless and Clusters in one account
- 30+ GPU models across 31 regions
- Serverless scales to zero and the vendor cites sub-200ms cold starts with FlashBoot
- Custom Docker images and GitHub deployment are supported
Cons
- No flat monthly or yearly compute plan; cost depends on GPU and runtime
- Reserved Clusters and some Cluster GPUs require contacting sales
- Spot Pods are interruptible
- Clusters on the pricing page scale up to 64 GPUs
Our take
Runpod fits developers and teams who want to rent GPUs by usage instead of paying a subscription, and who are comfortable with containers and an API. One account covers Pods, Serverless and Clusters, so the same setup can serve experiments and production inference. Costs depend on the GPU you pick and how long it runs, so estimate your workload first. Large reserved deployments go through sales, and spot Pods can be interrupted.
